Blackmagic Camera for iOS version 3.3 is out, and it’s a meaningful update. The headlining features: an Apple Watch companion app that lets you remotely control and monitor your iPhone camera from your wrist, and full ATEM camera control support via the Blackmagic Camera ProDock.
That second one is the interesting part. Connect an iPhone to an ATEM Mini over HDMI and you get tally, camera control, and remote adjustment of settings like ISO, white balance, and shutter — the same integration you’d expect from a dedicated studio camera. Add Blackmagic’s Focus and Zoom Demands and you’re operating it like broadcast gear, hands on the tripod handles.
This is worth paying attention to because Blackmagic isn’t positioning the iPhone as a workaround or a budget option — they’re wiring it directly into the same production infrastructure as their own cameras. The ProDock connection, the ATEM integration, the physical lens controls: these aren’t hobbyist features. They’re the same tools professionals use on dedicated hardware. The iPhone just happens to also be in your pocket.
